If you’ve claimed too much or not enough from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

Posted 29/07/2020

If you’ve claimed too much

If you want to delete a claim in the online service, you must do this within 72 hours.

If you’ve claimed too much, you must pay this back to HMRC. If you’re submitting another claim you need to declare this overpayment in your next claim. If you’re not submitting another claim you will need to contact HMRC to pay the money back: this can be done by phone on 0800 024 1222 or via HMRC’s webchat service.

If you’ve not claimed enough

If you’ve not claimed enough you will still need to pay your employees the correct amount and you should contact HMRC to amend your claim.

After 31 July, you’ll no longer be able to amend a claim for the period up to 30 June to add an employee that should have been included on a claim submitted before that date. Amendments for any other errors resulting in an underclaim will still be permitted after 31 July.
