Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG)
Posted 05/10/2020
The LRSG is a grant paid to businesses that provide in-person services and have been required to close because of lockdown.
A business is eligible if it pays business rates on its property, has been required to close because of formal restrictions on or after 9 September for a period of at least 3 weeks, and have been unable to provide its usual in-person customer service. The level of the grant is determined by the rateable value of the business premises and is paid for each 3-week period the business is closed. If the property has a rateable value of less than £51,000, the grant is £1,000 per 3-week period, and if the rateable value is over £51,000 the grant is £1,500 per 3-week period.
Eligible businesses could include non-essential retail, personal services or cafes/restaurants that operate primarily as an in-person venue, but which have been forced to close those services and provide a takeaway-only service instead.
Businesses that are required to close but do not pay business rates may be eligible for funding at the discretion of the local council, as may businesses not required to close but which are severely impacted.
Businesses that have chosen to close but were not required to, are still able to continue operating because they don’t depend on providing in-person services, or have reached the state aid limit are not eligible for the grant.
