New Capital Gains Rules For Residential Properties

Posted 27/05/2020

From 6 April 2020, Capital Gains made on residential property disposals should be reported to HMRC and the resulting tax paid within 30 days of completion.

For any up to date extensions to the filing date due to Covid-19, please see the Government guidance below.

Any gain is reported through your Government Gateway log-in. You will need to create a ‘Capital Gains on UK Property’ account before you can report and pay your tax using this service.

If your agent/Accountant files your figures for you, you will still need to create this account.

Sales covered by the only or main residence exemption do not have to be reported.
